It’s beautifully textured and it takes you with it. They are the coolest band in the world, live, as anyone who’s seen them on the JazzWorld Stage at Glastonbury on a Sunday with a pint of pear cider in hand will testify – this is the first of their albums that goes a way towards capturing the essence of their live performance. If it was English language it would surely have got a lot higher in everybody else’s ‘end of year’ lists.

Here is a band we failed to fully appreciate in England when we had them, now they’ve moved to New Mexico and everyone there loves them, and they’re on a New York label… but they still come back to Bristol for their 100th gig. Next time they fly over, try not to miss them.
Liz Green is finally threatening her album, after winning the Glastonbury Unsigned competition in 2007. The voice is something people either love or hate, but behind it there’s an amazing songwriter regardless.
