Album of the Year…
…Alexisonfire – Old Crows/Young Cardinals
Let’s get one thing clear first of all to avoid disappointment – this album is not ‘Crisis’. But then again ‘Crisis’ was not ‘Watch

Man on Fire. May/may not be called Alexis.
Out!’, and ‘Watch Out!’ was not ‘Alexisonfire’. You see where I’m going with this? With each new release D. Green and co. manage to reinvent their sound to astonishing, ear-drum punishing effect. Go listen to the first two tracks and then disagree with me. Can’t do it can you?
Gig of the Year…
…LostProphets – Reading ’09
When people ask you what your highlight of this summer’s Reading festival was, you’re supposed to say, ‘The Prodigy of course!’. That’s the cool answer. The done thing. But something bizarre happened the following evening. A five piece Welsh rock outfit stepped onto the Lockdown stage and blew everyone away. Those fortunate to have chosen them over Radiohead that Sunday may have bore witness to the greatest nu-metal concert of the decade.
Keep an eye out for…
…Kid Kudi
Kid Cudi
Yeah, the same Kid Cudi who’s track Day N’ Nite, remixed by Crookers, was probably the top of your ‘Most Overplayed of 2009′ list. Listen to the un-remixed version of the track however and I reckon you might just change your mind about the Cleveland-born rapper. Cudi has the cunning linguistics of a young Kanye West, the flow of a young Jay-Z and the creative, left-field beats of a young Pharrell Williams. Expect at least five of his next tracks to top your ‘Most Overplayed of 2010′ list – and I mean that only as a compliment.
